  • Bulging fontanel – This is the soft spot on top of the head which will budge, swell, or pop up due to the extra pressure and fluid in the brain due to the massive infection;
  • Cold extremities but a warm torso and head;
  • Irritable for no reason;
  • Loud crying or shrieking;
  • Rapid breathing;
  • Vomiting for no apparent reason;
  • Refusing to eat;
  • Extreme lethargy; and
  • Other symptoms
